DEFENDER 1
Our 1-day ‘DEFENDER 1’ course will provide you with a quick-and-dirty introduction to the fundamental mindset, strategies, techniques and tactics required to quickly identify, accurately assess, and effectively manage potentially dangerous people and situations.
Topics of discussion and study include (but are not limited to):
- Cultivating the ‘Sheepdog Mindset’
- Orienting yourself for danger, deception, conflict & violence
- Defining your ‘Mission’
- Establishing your moral & ethical ‘Mission Parameters’
- Understanding the legal ‘Rules of Engagement’
- Preparing to fight, and win, on multiple “fronts”
- Awareness, Assessment & Action Planning
- Situational Awareness & Threat Assessment & Action Planning
- Psychophysiological Arousal (Stress Response) vs Performance
- Psychophysiological Self-Regulation Techniques
- Avoidance & Evasion Strategies, Techniques & Tactics
- The ‘Grey Man’ Concept & Basic Applications
- ‘Freerunning’ Concept & Basic Applications
- Engagement Strategies, Techniques & Tactics
- Defusing the threat, through tactical communication
- Defending yourself against common striking & grappling attacks
- Disabling the threat, to create an opportunity to disengage
- Disengaging from the threat, getting to safety, and alerting police
- Post-Incident Protocols
- Legal: Debriefing and incident reporting
- Medical: Emergency medical interventions; documentation of injuries
- Recovery: Managing post-incident psychological & physical injuries
You will spend about half of this 8-hour course engaged in thought-provoking “tabletop exercises” and lively discussion, and the remaining half immersed in dynamic, interactive skill-building drills and realistic, scenario-based training.
While the ‘DEFENDER’ series of self-defence courses is super-fun, reasonably safe, and geared toward participants with little-to-no training or experience, it is recommended that you arrive well-rested, -fed and -hydrated, and prepared to venture slightly outside your psychological, physical and technical comfort zones.
